munich: movie review.

This movie is attempts to understand what drives people to kill other people for any reason is, in the pit of the hole.Whether that 'reason' is war between countries at odds, protecting one's self when endangered, revenge or vengeance for deeds perpetrated by 'the other', for panic in the moment of survival - each of these feels wrong despite the fundamental belief to the contrary at the moment of killing. MUNICH is about killing, about vengeance, about protection of 'home', about existence in a world so bifurcated by age-old schisms, and about us.One mans Freedom Fighter is another mans Terrorist. And while absorbing all of the 2 1/2 hour plus visual and philosophical information put forth in this epic film, the viewer is so paralyzed by the story that blinking for a second seems irreverent.

In 1972 Olympic games Israeli atheletes are killed by masked Arab/Palestinian marauders. This came to be known as "The Black September" .The Israeli govt appoints a secret mission to kill the Arab members responsible for the black september. and brought to life by a cast that simply could not be finer. From the opening of the movie without credits, spielberg portrays the dark side of the human emotions and the proxy war going on for centuries. This is all under the instruction and guidance of Golda Meir (brilliantly played by Lynn Cohen) and her advisors. This is not for the average mind. You need to be informed about the Arab-Israeli conflict, Mossad, CIA, MI6,KGB, and how the secret Intelligence agencies work. This according to me is the second best movie after Schindlers List.

The film is based on the book Vengeance: the true story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist team by canadian journlist Geroge Joans.

The film shows how a squad of assassins, led by former Mossad agent Avner Eric; Bana, track down and murder a list of Black September members thought to be responsible for the eleven Israeli athletes' murders. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture.

One of my favourite dialogues in the movie is by a mother to her son:" Home is everything. We finally have a land on the face of this planet that we can call our home."

The Camera Work , Music, Editing, Screen Play by Eric Roth is really amazing.

The Movie was nominated for Academy Awards in 5 sections including Best picture.

Final Words: Highly recommended.Epic. Very Moving.
